Among all the cartoons flying underneath the radar worldwide lays one that truly deserves its place. People either see it as a mostly forgotten piece of media or as something truly bizarre. And this cartoon is none other than...MOT.
MOT is a cartoon made in France in 1994 focusing on a young teenage boy named Leo. He lives with his mom and dad at home and has a girlfriend named Diane. His best friend, though, is a giant, purple monster named none other than MOT, which is short for Monstrous Organicus Telluricus. MOT himself lives in Leo's closet and often comes out of there to take Leo on surreal adventures through time. However, their neighbor is always spying on them because she is suspicious of MOT's existence; no matter how many times she tries to contact the police, they won't take her seriously anymore.
What can I say about this show? For the most part, each episode is filled with bizarre things happening one after the other, with little to no regard to continuity. A good example is in the episode "Double Trouble," where the episode first focuses on Leo in a race but then suddenly throws that event out and features unrelated and unexplained shenanigans in its place. If the show manages to get something coherent across, however, it is usually executed in a decent manner. As for the characters, they could've been better. Leo to some extent is a major punching bag, as he is put through torment by most of the other characters, and sometimes by MOT too.
What I do like about this show, though, is the animation. The character designs look pretty decent, but the animators gave it all they could and succeeded with flying colors. The score, which was composed by Bertrand Lenclos, is also tolerable for the most part as well. The theme song, on the other hand, is another story. It sounds more like drunk people jamming away on instruments than anything else.
Overall, this show is not exactly the kind I'd recommend to the average viewer. But if you're really interested in surreal content, then give it a watch. You have been warned.
