Make Up! The Art and Form with Michael Westmore (2006)
*** (out of 4)
Make up artist Michael Westmore talks about his work on the film ROCKY as well as his families early days in the business. Westmore starts off talking about how his family were wig makers in England but they eventually came to Hollywood and started getting major work after actor Adolphe Menjou accidentally cut off half of his mustache during the filming of THE THREE MUSKETEERS. From here Westmore talks briefly about working with Elizabeth Taylor and then it's on to ROCKY. There's quite a bit of talk about working with Stallone to make sure everything was properly done and we get some stories about how the make up was actually done. Overall this is another impressive and entertaining extra featurette from the ROCKY special edition. Westmore shows us the original molds that were used on Stallone as well as the "cut me Mick" razor. Westmore also goes into detail about the importance of continuity to make sure the bruises and cuts were the same and in order of the fight. Fans of the film should certainly be entertained with this featurette as it really gives you a good idea of what had to happen in order to get the look of the boxers right.
