This was a mockbuster of Top Gun: Maverick (2022), which was first intended to be released in 2019, and then rescheduled to June 2020, before being rescheduled to December 2020 due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, and then again to 2021 before being delayed to 2022. Because of the numerous delays, the mockbuster saw home video release two years before the movie it was meant to cash in on had a scheduled release date.

The pilots are Air Force cadets in pilot training flying F/A-18 Hornets. The Hornet is not used by the Air Force. They're used by the Marines and Navy.

Asylum outdid itself!

Top Gunner is one of those films that are so bad it is really very bad. Every line, every scene exudes ineptitude and badness at a level unseen before by any living being in the Galaxy.

Cliches abound, the special effects are poor at best , amateurish acting, below par production values, stupid and confusing plot. The filming location seems to be an abandoned airstrip in the middle of nowhere.

Asylum strived to be as awful as possible, and they did it!

And as the cherry on the cake, this was a stellar performance by Eric Roberts. He seems to be drunk most of the time....
