I watched this because...
1) I like watching South Korean and most Asian films...
2) Its about a subject that, as a boy/man/male, has forever angered me; in fact ever since I was old enough to understand what annoyed me most about the most stupid species on Earth...HUMANS!
James Brown (the Godfather of Soul music) had a No.1 R&B song back in 1966, on King Records, called, "It's A Mans, Mans, Mans World" (Recorded: February 16, 1966, Talent Masters Studios, New York, NY). Its title is a word play on the 1963 comedy film It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World which I find to be relevant to this age old subject. It is mad and maddening that men are still allowed to have this antiquated dominance idea especially when, women could have actually put an end to this inflated ego, numb-nut, caveman attitude decades ago.
Anyway I'm digressing too much! This film was an opportunity totally missed by the director to make an extremely valid statement of, until 1996, the abuse of women's rights in male dominated Far Eastern culture (somewhere that has treated its women disgracefully for centuries). It was/is worse than the Western culture attitude. It was missed because though the acting from all was adequate it had no life/spark/bounce to it (except for the young girl who played the little sister)! It just dragged its feet, bat and baseball mitts and gave us no real amount of baseball action from other female players. When we did get any ball play the camera was way too close in and everything was lost. There was more action from the disgruntled mother and far too much time spent on listening to people moaning and having a gripe about things to each other. For me it unfolded more as a coming of age drama, than a fighting for your rights in a one sided thinking society! Yet somehow I still thought it was an okay release but, I would definitely not watch it a 2nd or 3rd time...or ever again for that matter.
I give it a 5 for subject matter importance which, for me, is very good considering that I cannot stand a single sport that requires using a ball! I'm a Martial Arts guy and have been since I was a little boy. Until next time peeps, Go Peacefully (annyeonghi gaseyo!
