"Electric Circus" is a local dance show that originally was taped during the day when it debuted in 1987, then switched to being taped live at night in 1990 to give it more of a "club" feel. Produced at the ChumCity building, passersby could see the studio from the street and often partied outside while the bejewelled bods inside were dancing to the throbbing club music. I remember the show originally debuted with hosts Monika Deol & Michael Williams. When the show switched to nights, it was just Monika that hosted it. This dance show showcased all genres of dance music from R&B to House music. It also reflected the racial diversity of Toronto which was not seen on other dance shows like "The Grind" (BET), "American Bandstand" (syndication), or even "Soul Train" (syndication). As the years have gone by different hosts have hosted the show, but it still hasn't lost it's "club edge" and entertainment value. It's a great outlet to hear some of the latest club jams and to see some of the wild fashions that club patrons are wearing nowadays. Along with this, guest DJs from around the world spin some of the hottest dance tracks which further enhances the appeal of this show. Like it's predecessor titled "Boogie", it's been a nice slice of club life (Canadian style) in the past and hopefully for years to come.
