Contrary to what others who've commented seem to think, this was NOT the Chris Gaines episode of "VH1: Behind the Music," but was instead a TV special that aired on NBC (later the same week, Garth appeared on "SNL" in dual roles as himself and Chris). Unlike ALL of the other NBC Brooks TV specials, the network never reran it and it wasn't released on video, which is pitiful.
Mostly a (fantastic) live concert, this featured Garth singing songs from the then-forthcoming Chris Gaines album. Between songs and commercials, he gave some details about the ill-fated tie-in film "The Lamb" as well as background information on the fictional rock star and his ideas about the project. Unfortunately, the project never got beyond the album.
I'm not particularly a fan of Garth's, but I caught this when it aired and was instantly intrigued by the project and enamored with the music. Apparently I was in the minority. The album didn't sell well, the film was scrapped, and they've since tried to sweep it under the rug (Brooks' official website doesn't even cite the Chris Gaines album). I wish they'd release this on DVD (perhaps double-packaged with the VH1 show, which I've never seen) -- it gives a lot of interesting details on Gaines and the film that never was... and it's a great concert too.
