My favorite porn films tend to be serious or even morbid dramas, those popularized by Sarno and Damiano for example. THOROUGHLY AMOROUS AMY goes to the opposite extreme, aiming at silly bedroom farce.
Filmmaker Charles De Santos, who is quite variable in his output (my fave being THE SEVEN SEDUCTIONS OF MADAME LAU), is clearly horsing around this time out. Most if not all of the film is filler, but it has its moments.
Making it work is Tracy O'Neil, an unusual and vivacious porn star in the title role. She is neither the hottest femme to grace the silver screen nor a talented actress, but enthusiasm wins out.
Tone is set with a breezy theme song for the movie, as Amy Smith (O'Neil) jogs around town, picking up a cadre of followers almost like the Pied Piper. They all line up outside her pad to have sex with her, at first singly or in troilism fashion, quickly degenerating into an instant orgy. Girls are welcome in the mix too.
What passes for a plot is merely burlesque-style sketches as Amy can't turn down anybody who arrives at her door, including a male/female Avon team peddling free sex rather than their load of cosmetics. She gets to service her hubby (Peter Johns/Johnson) a couple of times, and his impromptu visit home for a nooner escalates the "hiding in the closets" pantomime of an apartment literally filling up with secret sex partners.
Paul Thomas, still early in his career, is a smoothie of a neighbor who orchestrates an incest scene of his wife (always impressive Christine Heller) and her sister (Candida Royalle), so that he can have group sex with them and Amy, too. Film devolves at the end into a pointless and rather unimpressive second orgy.
The sloppiness that goes with 1-day Wonders is present, especially in a silly interracial sex scene with cop Mick Jones when Amy seduces him while she's accidentally handcuffed to a chair, but the film seems to be more elaborate than that. Perhaps it was a 3-day Wonder.
