Sukeban deka: Kazama sanshimai no gyakushû

When I stumbled upon this 1988 Japanese movie, I must admit that I was initially intrigued about the movie given its synopsis. And I had the chance in 2021 to sit down to watch "Sukeban Deka: The Movie" (aka "Sukeban deka: Kazama sanshimai no gyakushû") without knowing anything about it.

Boy, this was a swing and a miss from writer Izô Hashimoto and director Hideo Tanaka. Why? Well, because the movie was just unfathomably slow-paced and uninteresting. I must admit that I lost interest in the movie about 30 minutes into it or so, and the movie just never managed to win me over.

The storyline was just boring and mundane, and I can't claim to find any enjoyment in neither storyline nor characters in the movie. So it was a rather bland and pointless movie experience, actually.

The acting in the movie was adequate, I suppose. Sure, the performances were held back and hindered by an atrocious script and a horrible lack of interesting characters.

All in all, this 1988 live action movie based on a Manga - which I haven't seen actually - just failed to deliver proper entertainment value. My rating of "Sukeban Deka: The Movie" settles on a generous three out of ten stars. This is not a movie that I would recommend you sit down to watch, unless you perhaps are a big fan of the Manga. It most certainly wasn't a gem in the Japanese cinema.
