Recensione in evidenza
Along DAS ANDERE LEBEN, LIEBE FREUNDIN (Dear Friend) by Rudolph Steinboeck is another movie that came in the post war period from the Viennese Josefstadt actors. For anyone who enjoyed the Austrian movies of the time, this film is another highlight and a lovely depiction of great performances, charming humor, subtle scenes and unforgettable sequences but, primarily, a wonderful adventure of a typical "road movie."
Susie (Vilma Degischer) a secretary at Thomas Wolf Verlag cooperation, seems to enjoy her work and fulfill her duties diligently. It is the third anniversary of her good relationship with Thomas Wolf (Erik Frey), the boss of the enterprise. Yet, similarly to the electricity which causes problems from time to time, not everything appears to be so promising and so perfect in the relations. Her life will forever change with the quest for adventure and the encounter with a charming Adrian (Johannes). Together with him, his cute dog, his lovable parrot and a small but rather comfortable caravan, she will experience the very best and unpredictable moments of her life...
LIEBE FREUNDIN is not only worth seeing as one story but also as a very realistic presentation of post war Europe. The images of crowded trains, ruined cities, misery of people and haunted streets long remain in the memory and echo famous Neorealist productions of the time, of course made in a different mood, evoking different feelings.
LIEBE FREUNDIN is and altogether pleasant film which predictably leads us to a very enjoyable and happy conclusion. It is a pleasant production thanks to the performances of its cast and some humorous touches that will long remain in the memory.
Vilma Degischer and Johannes, we can say tow of the most distinguished artists of the Josefstadt theater, are perfect in the lead. Their scenes have a vibrant mood, very catchy tunes, perfect pace and chemistry. They play their roles with ease and, though certain flashbacks might cause a little confusion, it is very pleasant to follow their plot. One of the most funny scenes is when they think that their caravan has been stolen and Susie spends the night in the tree fleeing a very 'bizarre' man who comes to the stable she was trying to hide in.
A very pleasant film of the period that, perhaps, does not evoke the equal drama to DAS ANDERE LEBEN but also offers much charm and nice time. A viewing that will never be regretted.
