Director Sadrac tells us a dull and non-sense plot concerning the story of Elisa, a 12-year-old girl (Jana San Antonio). After the accidental death of her mother, Elisa tries to convince her father Esteban (Ivan Massagué) that she has been endowed with the same superpowers as the heroine of her favorite comic and that she can use them to take revenge on whoever was responsible for the fatal accident. At the same time, the famous painter Héctor Asier Etxeandia is putting the finishing touches on his latest painting exhibition, while he takes care of his wife Ursula (Silvia Abascal), who's on a wheelchair after suffering a car accident. From day one, the girl's behavior shows us that for her, revenge is is much more than a natural instinct. Finally, all these roles will realize that, without them knowing it, their lives have been united until an amazing climax.
This claustrophobic, complex and tiring film was lousily written/directed in low budget by Sadrac González-Perellón himself. A very outlandish film that develops along cryptic paths, and becomes very slow and frankly boring. The development, paced in chapters, follows three main story lines that intersect in the most incredible ways. The bizarre "Amazing Elisa" is a movie that boldly and proudly defies categorization. Part fantasy, relationship drama, vengeance movie, dark comedy, weird superhero film, and feminist manifesto, this is an offbeat story from the twisted mind of writer/director Sadrac González-Perellón. There are three well-known actors: Ivan Massagué, Asier Etxeandia, and special mention for Silvia Abascal as the wheelchair-bound wife, all of them give acceptable but forced performances, taking charge of a meaningless and sometimes absurd dialogue. However, their passable interpretations are all wasted by the main girl, Jana San Antonio, who is really horrible, so she doesn't understand what she says, in fact I had to put on the subtitles in order to understand something. Thus, in addition to the ridiculous plot, and stilted performance, the film suffers from a profound casting error, by giving absolute prominence to an inexperienced girl who does not know how to recite and is extremely unfriendly, all of which plunges the story into the abyss. The rare film unfolds in two stories while a girl who dresses exactly the same as the protagonist of the comic that Elisa always reads, moves through these same spaces. There are two stories that initially run along parallel paths and that will eventually converge in the surprising ending. Thus all the characters will realize that, without knowing it, their lives will be united by an invisible line or perhaps by a comic.
It contains adequate cinematography, as well as suspenseful musical score. The wild and wicked motion picture was slowly and strangely directed by Sadrac González-Perellón who uses long scenes with hard and short dialogue, resulting to be sometimes tiring due a its slow pace , though a poetic aesthetic makes it attractive at times. He is a Spanish winner award film director, writer and film producer born in Madrid in 1983. After studying art and drawing, he made several short films and he shot his first art-house film, ¨Myna has gone¨ (2009). As writer and director he is known for ¨Black Hollow Cage¨ (2017). Sitges welcomed the visit of its director and its protagonist, a Lowena McDonell who was chosen as the best candidate in a numerous casting and now comes to Nocturna, this Black Hollow Cage as a novelty among so many horror films and it got several prizes and nominations. And other important shootings : ¨Deathcember¨ (2019) (segment "Kill Santa) and this ¨Amazing Elisa (Asombrosa Elisa: original title)¨ (2022) with a decent but wasted cast as Asier Etxeandia , Ivan Massagué and Silvia Abascal. Rating: 3.5/10. Below average.
