I would critique the actor's portrayal of Jesus, but I think the sterile form of Jesus was how the LDS church wanted it, so that like a blank canvas, the viewer can superimpose the Jesus they really want onto the very neutral portrayal. However, this portrayal of Jesus leaves the viewer with such a bland version of Jesus as to be unsufferable, and the old english makes it worse. The actor is to blame a little because of the inability to connect with him at all. He's too "ryan reynolds" to play a convincing Jewish prophet of the 1st century. Actors have to bestow divinity without coming across as an alien in a human skin suit.
