I channel surfed onto the previous show, in progress: waaaa?? It was supposed to be about a haunted house but letdown: no ghosts & terrible acting. In rolls Nadya Suleman, the infamous "Octomom". And she sat telling her story to the camera, like in the ghosts shows I enjoy, so I decided to watch.
Right away I noticed what they weren't talking about: the plastics surgeries, her obsession with Angelina Jolie and who paid for her plastic surgeries to (attempt to) resemble her? That musta cost a pretty penny and left her with a forevermore botched scary face.
Why did she change her name from Nadya? She has a Nadya face. It's kinda slap in her momma's face to change the name she gave her.
The show humanized her but every time the camera came to her, it was hard due to the botched silicone face. I remember back in the day, everyone hated her and Dr. Phil (another missed opportunity to bash him right back) was a POS to her. Not even Ellen would give her a box of diapers. With so many talk shows she went on and nobody gave her "$100,000 from our sponsors". Nope. The thing back then was publishing how she'd copied AJ's look and brood. Half felt sorry for her back then at the lack of support she got, all the hate, and half wondered why she was so mentally unstable she wanted to copy another woman's face and duck-billed lips. They didn't touch at any of that.
Except!! Her G_D mother. If her real mother was such a piece of work as the character here portrayed, wow. The woman wouldn't help her with anything: money, food, babysitting. Constantly rejecting her. (Well she repeated that with the media.) She had one Black friend out of left field who helped her with everything in the movie. Never heard about her iRL.
For the rest, it was surprisingly acted well enough. I mean for Lifetime? Where every dumb actress belongs in Acting 101? I'm not saying: "OSCARS FOR ERR'BODY!" but no one pulled the fake cringeworthy acting where no one can act and puts up the affected "Lifetime accent". (More like speech impediment.) None of that here, the actors were good and I've never seen anything the lead was in but I guess they picked her cos she sounded just like Nadya.
It wasn't remarkable, it was a boring story, which means they didn't go out of their way to add lies to make it more interesting than it really was, I'm not sure what else they could have done with this. They didn't touch at her ethnicity, so I'm still confused about that. A search returns nothing, but she's always looked Palestinian to me. Also not sure why she "wears" her mother's maiden name, since was such a hateful b-word and she loved her dad. Maybe she should have changed that last name and not the first? Nadya Doud. There. Much better name for her than the hideous one she picked for herself.
A tale of lies, exploitation, mild addiction and ...redemption? Well you'll have to watch it to find out. 6/10 for what it was. Next week is Gypsy Rose, whose baby daughter is sure to revisit her heinous crime and perpetrate it upon her mamma the year said baby turns 14. Mark my words: that's my precog prediction for ya. We'll reconvene then!
