As the lines between porn and mainstream continue to blur, the idea of "porn for couples" has gained some steam. While I don't know if Sexual Quest, a soft-core film which you can find on various cable channels, was intended for this audience, it comes across this way.
James Kwong and Charmane Star play the film's main couple, a husband and wife who decide to spice up their love life with various adventures, such as pretending to be strangers, or Charmane doing a striptease with a female friend (Ana Marie Rios, the film's second lead).
Sexual Quest has various attempts at feigning spiciness, like said striptease, or Rios saying she was turned on by catching her boyfriend with another woman, or Kwong and Charmane deciding they should have sex in front of another couple. This tends to go nowhere, or never really happens at all (like the sex-in-front-of-other-couple idea). Even the scenes with Rios and Charmane stripping are relatively tame. The only variety in the movie comes from the sexual encounters of Rios, and Kwong's work friend, Duane Carter. Rios is probably the sexual bright spot of the movie, as she gets to show various sides while not being locked down into scenes with one partner.
Kwong and Charmane are more than capable leads, with good sexual rapport and a great deal of believability as suburban spouses looking for a change. I would have enjoyed seeing them with more diversity among scene partners. One of the reasons to watch adult entertainment is to see the wild fantasies you know you won't get by watching an ordinary movie or TV show. Whether that be some type of cheating, or partner-swapping, or even fantasies, it would help improve a movie with a good idea and good casting, but lackluster execution.
