Si-ra-no; Yeon-ae-jo-jak-do

I had the opportunity to sit down to watch the 2010 romantic comedy "Cyrano Agency" (aka "Si-ra-no; Yeon-ae-jo-jak-do") from writer and director Hyun-seok Kim here in 2021. Granted, I hadn't heard about the movie before sitting down to watch it. But hey, it was a South Korean romantic comedy, so chances were greatly that the movie would be an enjoyable one, as the South Korean cinema excel at making these types of movies.

And what seemed like the potential for a good romantic comedy just turned out to deliver a stale movie. Yeah, this movie just didn't manage to bring the entertainment where it was needed. What may have functioned well on script and paper just didn't translate all that well to the screen.

First of all, I must say that the characters in the movie were just too superficial, and the lack of personalities, traits and quirks just made for a character gallery that had the appeal of wet paint.

And the storyline itself, while it definitely had potential, just ended up being the equal of stale, tasteless soup. There wasn't much of any enjoyment to be found throughout the course of the movie. Sure, some of the scenes during the courtships were funny and good, but overall, the movie just lacked punch.

It should be said, though, that they definitely had good enough actors and actresses for portraying the various roles and characters in the movie. Just a shame that those characters were shallow, superficial and essentially just faceless mannequins.

All in all, "Cyrano Agency" just failed to properly entertain me, much less amuse me. And the movie fell short of even being mediocre. Hence, my rating lands on a mere four out of ten stars.
