It's far too easy to fall into into a state of acceptance. To be told that your work isn't bad, but it isn't good either. Working towards a goal you only dream about fulfilling. In "The Rest of Your Life", Will Clegg describes a malaise that has fallen upon many of those who found themselves leaving college and doing just enough in the real world to register as functional. It isn't a heavy handed criticism, merely the question of "Is it enough?"
Alex (Lauren Schneider) returns from New York after having attended NYU. Connecting with both old friends and new she finds herself working in an art gallery making a sufficient living. Her friends find themselves in a similar situations. The wasted Friday nights reminiscent of high school and college combined with "normal pills" are all barely enough to drown out the painful question of "what the hell are we doing?" The mediocrity is something that becomes more painful and comfortable with the passing of time, evidenced by Justin (Justin Rivenbark), a failed artist who paints in his parent's dark garage, ashamed to show his work for fear of further rejection.
The Rest of Your Life is a reminder of the distractions that can convince you it isn't so bad. Whether its antidepressants, half decent wages, or supporting parents, a life can't worth living can't be put on hold.
