Rurik has won in the lottery, therefore he has brought his family to enjoy the silence of the countryside for a year.His neighbor Hamsteri speaks them into getting all the supplies they need for the winter, that's gonna be tough.Rurik gets very excited about getting everything they need, so when the winter comes, they don't have to leave the house.They'd be like bears in the nest.So they do some berry picking, get warm clothes and meat.They also get a dog called Luppakorva.Then there seems to be no sign of snow.Will the winter ever come? Hamsterit (1982-1983) is directed by Pauli Virtanen.I read Veikko Huovinen's novel this mini series is based on last year.This is very well made show of that book.I always enjoy watching the acting done by Pentti Siimes.Comedy or drama, he nails it.He does superb work as Hamsteri.Aapo Vilhunen is excellent as Rurik.Kirsti Kemppainen is wonderful as Tellu.Their kids Raisa, Niku and Naku are played by Mira Eerikäinen, Ville Tiihonen and Juuso Kujanpää.Martti Tschokkinen is brilliant as Maanviljelijä.Marjatta Rinne is very good as Maanviljelijän Emäntä.Saara Ranin is terrific as Vilhelmiina-Muori.Director Mikko Niskanen is amazing as Jallu in his second last acting performance.It's a lot of fun how they talk about winter, praising it.When I go outside in this freeze, I wish the summer was here.But these people live for the winter.There's a lot of tragicomedy in Hamsteri's character.He's actually a very lonely man, only having his mouse he calls Minni as his company.But he gets more meaning to his life when he helps his neighbors survive the winter.His life becomes less empty.
