dramatized version of the love and romance of Khitan Empress

The literal translation of the title is: Great Empress Dowager of Liao

Liao is the regime established by the ancient Khitan people in Northeastern China, which controls most of the regions north of Yellow River, the northern border of Song, the Chinese dynasty.

The relationships between the empress and succeeding emperors had more to do with customs of Khitan rather than the men's interest, because it was a tradition for the brother to marry to widow of the late brother, and this custom is common among many ancient minorities in China, such as Hun and Mongols.
