I taped this hysterically funny HBO special when I was in college 14 years ago, and I still pull the tape out from time to time to watch it and get a good laugh! It's that great! It's one of those rare things that I try to get my friends to watch at least once, and everyone that's seen it has loved it.
Jake's timing is great and his off the wall observations about everything from aliens disguised as humans ("Why do the phone guys go down into manholes? There's no phone equipment down there!") to devastating breakups (Where you're sitting around in your underwear eating chicken pot pies for six months) to cross-country family trips to lame attractions ("Come see the world's biggest curtain!") had me rolling. Who else could pull off such a hilarious bit about borrowing Skeletor's dialogue from a "He-Man, Masters of the Universe" cartoon? Just Jake, I suppose.
Granted, I loved it, but it might not be for everyone. It's not as crude as some comics (although Jake does drop in a few F-bombs here and there; no big deal to me, though), and it's a little more cerebral in it's own little offbeat way.
I saw Jake at the Improv here last year, and he's still hilarious. Thanks for the laughs, Jake!
