An offbeat VHS porn feature based on two gimmicks, "A Tongue Is Born" takes its dumb pun title from director Mel Curtis's line at the end of the movie. His new discovery Elise has just completed shooting her lesbian scene in the kitchen with Krisstarah Knight and he congratulates her on her long tongue's ability at cunnilingus.
Curtis made this oddball feature in collaboration with star Rick Savage; Mel gets writer credit while Rick takes screenplay credit (the distinction between the two a mystery to me).
Project has the five standard sex scenes presented as a cross between a story being shot and reality. It's as if a boring BTS about the shooting of a porn movie was turned on its head -we see the porn content, and then are presented with a fictionalized version of how a porn movie is organized and made. It's rather seamless, but the gimmick is undercut by ridiculously Pollyannaish dialogue about how wonderful and professional the Adult Industry is, almost a porn PSA embedded in the movie, structurally and literally!
Curtis himself gets a prominent NonSex role playing a version of himself (only he and Elise have character names matching their stage names), producing the movie and seeming like the nicest guy -even poking fun at himself in a blooper scene at the end of the tape. (He looks like a Porn Central Casting for the role of pornographer, suggesting with his beard the persona of Gerard Damiano. Elise is an unimpressive performer -even the length of her tongue is more talked about than proven in action, and the silliness of her sudden success is more sad than fun, being so fake.
The sex scenes are standard, while the "up with Porn!" sentiment gushed in between them by the cast is a bit hard to take.
