The title is no misnomer:it tells it all :"some news " ; the story takes place near Oran , in 1961 , one year before the Evian agreement; the radio and the newspapers talk about the agitation in Algeria, the OAS attacks ,lynchings ....A family of teachers does not seem to heed the impending threat ;although they are ,so to speak , on the front line, they spend their time on the beach , having small talk excluding politics ; the long party epitomizes their lack of concern ,they burry their heads in the sand,although some men do take sides, but it's (or more likely it seems) a long way from war.
The movie is given a new wave treatment ,which may look infuriating to some,but it inspires its vital
message :if you ignore the march of history ,history will catch you up sooner or later ;hence the tragic
ending .
