Final Our Gang appearance by Eugene 'Porky' Lee, whose role as the "tag-along kid" was taken over by Mickey Gubitosi (aka Robert Blake), who had just taken over for Gary Jasgur as the "toddler" of the group. "Porky" was let go because he had grown too tall for the role - even taller than Spanky. This was also his final film, period. He had been with the gang since 1935.

As Buckwheat and Porky's car speeds down the hill the right front wheel hits a rock, and Buckwheat's seat - as well as Buckwheat himself - separate from the rest of the car. Close examination reveals that the separation takes place before the wheel hits the rock.

The race is nice

However, the film could have been a lot better than it was. The kids are all getting noticeably older, especially the previously noted Alfalfa and Spanky, who speak in a gosh-wow way that not only trammels the whole picture with that MGM goodygoody feeling but is age-inappropriate as well. If MGM wanted to use ten and eleven year olds, okay, but they should have adjusted the plots and such accordingly. The rest of the gang comes off better, especially Butch. This is one of the five or six shorts that got recycled into the plot of the 1994 LITTLE RASCALS remake, and it's the only one that was actually improved in the retelling.
