Movie: Bela Seshe, Family Drama Movie released: 2015 Language: Bengali Director: Shiboprosad Mukherjee, Nandita Roy
A beautiful lesson on family and relationships. A family drama film based on learning from experiences. It depicts the value of a relation and its bonding. The film questioned about the traditional roles of husbands and wives in Bengali society against the winds of immemorial time taking place. In today's world, both husband and wife needs to be independent and not being chained in their responsibilities and commitments while working towards making a family with kids and grand-children. It implements the fact that we depend on our family to lead a healthy and satisfied family life then our professional life also reflects the same. The film leads to the driving motive when one tends to lose that happiness due to lack of love between relations and when it's important to keep the fire burning inside us.
The film setups the whole Durga Pujo scenario in the background with the ethnic culture covered up in Majumdar Paribar. It takes a turning point when the protagonist Shri Biswanath Majumdar (Soumitro Chatterjee) announces the announces his intention to be divorced from his wife Smt. Arati Majumdar (Swatilekha Sengupta) just before their 50th marriage anniversary in front of her and other family members on bijoya dashami. He claims he wants to fulfill his dreams to travel the whole world around in his remaining years. There is a line said by C.S.Lewis, "You're never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream".
The film implements the dream of an aged protagonist to travel the whole world, see the river Nile in Egypt and the midnight sun in Norway. But the truth denies from the outside world that he wants wife to be self-reliant and self-supporting in his absence so that she shouldn't goes in vein after his demise. All of these when he couldn't live without her he returns to her Arati. Each and every scenes touched the real life scenario with emotional story line and soothing background till end every time. From a fiery daughter in a patriarch to comic touch of husband and wife in their compact life, the famous Sasur Vs Jamai discussions, teary eyed moments to comic conversations depicts the whole amazing philosophies of life. The decision to revisit the the mistakes by the aged couple they made in the past, capturing the scenic beauty of Shantiniketan and Poush Mela, their grown up children who are dealing with their respective marital problems gets to mend their own relationship. Mili (Rituparna Sengupta) ends her extra marital affair and reciprocates her feelings to her husband Barin (Sujoy Prasad Chatterjee) , Buri (Aparajita Auddy) and Jyotirmoy (Kharaj Mukherjee) rediscovers love in a mentally high job factor and making a comic pact scenes of their daily lives, Barin (Shankar Chakraborty) rethinks about the moments spent on with his wife Sharmi (Indrani Dutta) on the banks of Kopai Nadi after their marriage and starts valuing her again. The younger couple Piu (Monami Ghosh) and Pilu (Anindya Chatterjee) understands the value of marriage on seeing their parent's separation. The songs are really very soothing with its surreal atmosphere, on hearing the music makes it a breath taking moment.
The film is for every generation. It's about giving important life lessons, valuing the feelings of each other. The film centers on the fact that marriage is an institution which works only when both partners are willing to give time to each other, understands each other's wishes and making out time for each other to spend some 'we' time. The film is just a Masterpiece.
