In 2015, Lynn Shelton met Marc Maron for the first time when she was a guest on his podcast, "WTF with Marc Maron". Over the next five years, they worked together professionally on multiple projects, including Shelton directing two of his comedy specials, multiple episodes of his shows Maron (2013) and GLOW (2017), and the movie Sword of Trust (2019). They also became romantic partners before her death on May 16, 2020.
