Hungarian film director, the son of a manufacturer and landowner. At his peak in the 30's and 40's, Bolvary's specialty were Viennese operettas and musical comedies, often featuring stars like Hilde Krahl, Ilse Werner and Willi Forst. He started out as a journalist and entered films in Budapest as an extra. Turning to directing in 1920, he moved to Germany for more lucrative work three years later, under contract to Emelka/Bavaria Film. By the mid-30's, he worked in Vienna for various production companies, including Styria-Film, Terra Film and Wienfilm. In 1954, he became head of production for the Munich-based Starfilm.
