Prolific small-part actor of westerns and serials, where he alternated villainous roles with barbers, soldiers, Mexican or Spanish landed gentry and even sidekicks of the hero. Gave a sympathetic portrayal of Gen Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna in Heroes of the Alamo (1937). Had apparently trained to be a Shakespearean actor before becoming typecast in horse operas.
