He acted in John Webster's play, "The Duchess of Malfy," at the Theatre Royal in Stratford, England with Avis Bunnage and Yootha Joyce in the cast. John Bury was director.
Gaunt, sinister-looking British character actor, often in shrewd or eccentric roles, but equally at ease in light comedy. A familiar villain of British TV from the 1960's. Best-remembered on screen as the silent assassin Vargas in थंडरबॉल (1965). Acclaimed on stage as Professor Moriarty in 'Sherlock Holmes' at the Aldwych Theatre in London (1974) and as Horatio in 'Hamlet' at the Old Vic (1975).
