At the Waterfront After the Social: The Legacy of Sleepaway Camp (2014)
*** 1/2 (out of 4)
This 45-minute documentary can be found on the Blu-ray/DVD from Shout Factory. The documentary features interviews with writer/director Robert Hitlzik as well as cast members Felissa Rose (and her mother), Jonathan Tiersten, Paul DeAngelo, Karen Fields, Desiree Gould, Frank Trent Saladino and webmaster Jeff Hayes.
If you've seen any of Shout Factory's documentaries then you know you're going to be entertained and especially if you're a fan of the film in question. There's no doubt that fans should be highly entertained with these interviews as you get a great amount of detail about the pre- production of the movie as well as everything that was going on during the making of it. This includes a few romances that broke out on the set as well as stories about how everything was handled from the kid's cussing to the notorious ending. I'm not going to spoil the ending in case someone reading this doesn't know it but it was quite fascinating hearing people talk about a few of the options that were out there to make the "effect" work.
Obviously the highlight is getting to hear from Rose as she talks about how she got the part, what it did for her career and of course her thoughts on the ending and various other subjects that are brought up in the film. She also talks about her brief discussion of being in the sequels and even the director talks about why he walked away from the two official sequels (of course, they'd reunite on RETURN TO SLEEPAWAY CAMP). Fans will certainly want to check this out among the countless other extras.
