I've really taken to something about movies like Chillers and CreepTales and of course this one, they're all pretty obscure shot on video anthologies that are very cheap in effects and poor in overall quality but to me they really have an endearing fun quality to them that takes you back to the more trashy grotty forgotten corners of late eighties video horror movies and the bizarre oddities you could find in the more out of the way video rental stores! This is the kind of lovably weird twilight zone horror crap you'd find yourself watching at six am and not knowing how you got to watching it but knowing that you couldn't stop watching it till the end, and while a little less fun than the other movies I mentioned and less well put together, this one fits right in among them, and I just hate to see any anthology from this era forgotten so unfairly, they all deserve their fans, except for a lot of the ones from these days, say what you will about this but it certainly has soul and a sense of fun put into it. Very mixed bag of tales indeed, not too any of them all that good, but my favourite one was about a young woman who is glued to her tv day and night watching a show with a demented British host that shows violent movies about murders and crimes, and as she watches her awful mother who constantly berates her about her life and demands her attention, also suffers the same violent acts that happen on the tv, and all of it comes to a head when she starts talking to the creepy man on the tv and he encourages her to take control by killing her own mother, but is there a little more going on with this picture than it appears... I thought it had the most effort out into it and I thought the concept was interesting, how sometimes life and fantasy can sometimes mix together in a scary way. I'm sure you can do better and I know it's far from the gold standard of horror anthologies, but this off the wall and weird as hell collection of tales is a hoot and a half and has a bizarre atmosphere and comic edge to it that makes it worth seeking out and watching if you enjoy hidden so bad they're good horror offerings from the good old shot on video era! If you've never watched one before this isn't the worst place to start with, as it captures that special feel among the best of them, I enjoyed it a lot for what it was, very fun bizarre and interesting, and a worthwhile crazy time x.
