'BURY ME AGAIN': Two Stars (Out of Five)
Ultra-low budget supernatural horror-comedy film about a professor who murders his nagging wife, and later is stalked by her spirit, and the police investigating the crime (and others like it). Odd events are explained as the universe's attempt to balance things out. The film was written and directed by Vince Redman and Don Dapp and stars James W. Grimes, Jennifer FitzPatrick, Erin Diamantides and Jamison Challeen (a buddy of mine). It's pretty cheesy and lacking strongly on production values but given the estimated $10,000 budget you have to give it some credit for effort and pulling off some amusing elements.
The film opens by explaining to the viewer that every couple of billion years the universe attempts to even things out by having a 'Big Blue Light Special'. This time it's target is Earth and a few nasty individuals who need to be taught a lesson. Those nasty individuals are Sebastian (Grimes) and his nagging wife Danielle (FitzPatrick), as well as others not focused on. Sebastian decides to buy a gun and murder his wife when she's finally pushed him over the deep end with her nagging and abuse. Due to a mysterious package and stuffed clown arriving earlier in the day Danielle is brought back to life, in spirit form, and wants revenge. The film also centers on the inept police called in to investigate the bizarre events. They're lead by Lt. Daniels (Challeen) and a new recruit named Evans (Diamantides), recently promoted to Sergeant, who Daniels has a thing for.
The movie is filled with corny music, cheesy effects and forced jokes. With that said it is amusing, even as silly as it all is. The acting, for the most part, isn't that bad and there are multiple cute girls to look at (especially Diamantides). I'm a little biased but Challeen was my favorite part of the film and I thought the story involving his and Diamantides' character was the most likable. For me the movie definitely wasn't a waste of time and not just because I know one of the actors in it but because being a fan of film I appreciate and admire the effort put forward by everyone involved. With a bigger budget it definitely could have been something much more worthwhile. As is it's bad but not a complete waste.
