Turf

The wonderful Sergi Lopez ("Harry un ami qui vous veut du bien" ," el laberinto del fauno") saves something from the wreckage and steals the show from the stars quintet (including Depardieu) ; mare Torpille (=Torpedo) is best supporting actress.

One could have made a reasonably honest comedy ,had the screenwriters focused on the little mare ; there is one acceptable scene when one of the mates speaks to her ,but that's all; apart from it ,it's a spate of clichés: the forty-something man still living with an overpossessive mom (Marthe Villalonga categorized at this kind of role) who plays virtual golf , the bland love affair with the horse-trainer's daughter , the atmosphere of the cafe where the buddies meet,the "unexpected " triumph of an old nag....

The film got unanimous thumbs down and flopped at the box-office ,which saved us from "turf 2".
