An unofficial fangame Chrono Trigger: Crimson Echoes produced by Kajar Laboratories is a Chrono Trigger Rom hack game not officially sponsored or endorsed by the Square Enix company. This game is set between the events of Chrono Trigger and its sequel Chrono Cross. It is based on 5 years after the events of Chrono Trigger. The Crimson Echoes project was launched by ZeaLitY in 2004 and was set to be released on May 31, 2009. After 98 percent of the game was completed. Square Enix company threatened to file a copyright lawsuit against Kajar Laboratories and sent a cease-and-desist letter which led to the game being cancelled. Despite this, there are unofficial ways to play the cancelled game online or through the USB drive hack.

Gaffes
When the player boards the Epoch flying car Time Machine, the time gauge reading destinations are incorrect. 65,000,000 BC,12,000 BC, 600 AD, 1000 AD and 2302 that the player enters actually goes to 64,999,9995 BC, 19,995 BC, 605 AD, 1005 AD and 2305 AD. This is a result of the rom hack development taken from Chrono Trigger Rom which was left unfinished in the beta version.
