I refuse to pay for streaming, so I spend a lot of time on Roku, YouTube, and Tubi. Usually I go to YouTube or Instagram to get my comedy fix but the algorithm that feeds me content brought me to He's Dead & So Am I.
I laughed my a** off. The trailer doesn't prepare you for the barrage of one-liners that make up this movie. In short, it's about two best friends who are ghosts, living in the woods. They are stuck in purgatory and have been for years. They have a great counterpoint with the male ghost, Lance, being somewhat of the "straight man" and the female, Sandy, playing the "wild card". She says some of the most foul things I've ever heard. I couldn't stop laughing. I missed entire lines of dialogue. They even have this bit where random facts about ghosts and the afterlife appear on screen from time to time.
The ghosts decide they're going to help an attractive woman who Lance has been stalking, somewhat, because she seems like she's in trouble. It's revealed that her sister has gone missing and then there is an entire subplot about a man who has been kidnapping women. I will admit that I didn't like the sharp turn into a somewhat serious and certainly "more heavy" tone, but that also made the movie so unique. You don't know what's coming next and they keep you laughing and entertained the whole way though.
Saving it for last... the music. 50% of the laughs come from the stupidest musical moments, whether the female ghost is singing songs about private parts or the soundtrack is doing something you might hear from a Trey Parker movie, or the Tom Waits parody at the end of the movie. The music makes this comedy stand out! I ended up buying it on Amazon. A+++
