Commentaire à la une
Frankenfish (2004)
** 1/2 (out of 4)
Mildly entertaining horror film takes place in the swamps of Louisiana where dead bodies are beginning to pile up. Not only are the bodies dead but they are strangely mutilated and it turns out that a huge, man-made fish is the bad guy. You might think this is just another rip off of Jaws and it is in a way but it's certainly more entertaining than a lot of the rips out there. The film might not be original in its story but it does offer up some original things and that includes having a black man play the lead, which normally doesn't happen in a film like this. Tory Kittles does a very good job in his role and certainly delivers the best performance in the film. The low budget nature of the film is actually a good thing as it makes the settings feel all the more real and it also builds up some nice atmosphere. The CGI fish is pretty fake looking but it's not too bad and it's certainly far from the worst thing I've seen in these types of movies. If you're after gore then this film offers a lot of that includes various decapitations, which let the red stuff go crazy. The plot really doesn't make any sense but the fish has something to do with a gangster but none of the dialogue makes it too clear about what's going on. If you don't enjoy B movies then you'll certainly hate this one but if you are a fan then this film offers enough to keep you entertained.
