Commentaire à la une
Many movies go outdated with time, but certain remain immortal to become an epitome of the period. "Maa" is one of those rare movies, which though not much hyped as much as Bimal Roy's other classics, is a moving picture of the social milieu of 50s and beyond. It's like an old family album which one cherishes to feel the days of one's grandparents and ahead.
The film doesn't have much of dramatic sequences or villains. It's a simple tale of characters who roam around you and your family. It's a poignant tale of motherhood where a mother is left by her sons to fend for herself under dire circumstances. It's witty at times with Bharat Bhushan in an energetic role ever and Lila Chitnis in an eponymous role. Overall, it's not a film to be watched for the stardom or the songs for which most of the 50s are classics for. Just go for it as missing it is missing a gem for Indian Cinema for savoring the goodness of Indian Cinema.
Rating: 4 stars out of 4.
