Romarin

Romarin and his friend Tonin are the best fishermen in this little town of the south of Provence ;besides the latter possesses a voice which allows him to seduce all the girls around with his songs (there are three or four of them all along the movie) ; he's also the best petanque (type of bowls in Provence) player .Like in Hugon's previous work "Maurin des Maures" ,the police ,here represented by jealous gendarme Orsini ( Robert Le Vigan ,in a part not really worthy of his great talent) , are the enemy , but this is a gentle rebellious side already present in former movies.

Hugon looks like a minor Marcel Pagnol here ,it's the same friendly atmosphere as in his movies , but the lines are not as witty and as funny as the writer-director's .Like in Pagnol's " Angèle" ,the real danger comes from outside the peaceful harbor limits: from the big cities where gangsters do their dirty job.

Womanizer Toni ,for the first time ,falls under a siren 's thumb : a would be Russian princess who asks him to put her jewels (from the Romanov!) in a safe place ; the suitcase actually contains cocaine .

This "safe" place might put the girl in love with Tonin's father in jeopardy ; to make the matters worse, gendarme Orsini also covets the good maid.
