Anecdotes
Director Michael Bay didn't like the script and often engaged Will Smith and Martin Lawrence in discussions about how the dialogue and scenes could improve. He often allowed them to improvise while the camera were rolling. He secretly told Will to call Lawrence a bitch before the car-scene. The whole "two bitches in the sea" was improvised, as was Martin's comment when Téa Leoni called him gay.

Gaffes
Fouchet has no reason to phone the police after the unnecessary kidnapping of Julie, especially since he does not even make any demands. And as a general rule, no drug dealer ever has a reason to tell the police when exactly his next drug deal will go down.

The final chase along the runway has been treated with orange 'sunset' filters in the UK pay-TV version, but in the UK laserdisc release the same scene takes place in normal daylight.

Nearly 25 years later, still one of Michael Bay's better movies

As a protege of Jerry Bruckheimer and Don Simpson, who died after the movie came out before The Rock was released, Michael Bay made his directorial debut with this modestly budgeted buddy comedy that spawned a sequel and another one coming out next January, all starring Will Smith and Martin Lawrence. THe title of the movie is based on a popular song used for the classic tv show COPS, and both movies including this one have a killer soundtrack. Will Smith got his big break with this movie before getting into an even bigger movie with ID4 (soon to be dwarfed by others including Alladin). Martin Lawrence, fresh off from his hit tv show Martin on fox, is the buddy of will smith.
