Most of the dialogue was improvised by the cast, who were given extraordinary creative control over their own characters, even drawing straws to determine which of their characters would die in the story. Director Linda Yellen said, "I never believed this would be accepted commercially." Co-star Jill Eikenberry said filming was like a "week-long therapy session."

Moving, entertaining, powerful

This movie was one of the most powerful films that I have seen in years. It teaches us all how to look at our relationships and friendships. I hope that when I revisit my youth, I have a group of friends as loyal and fun as this group of exceptional women. This movie made me call a friend I haven't talked to in years and rekindle the relationship. Rent this movie, pop some popcorn and watch it with your nearest and dearest!
