In The Daily Register newspaper with the headline "GANG WAR FLARES", the far left-hand column headline states, "Navy Testing Wireless Phones". The first successful mobile phone call from a car was made on June 17, 1946, just over a year from when this short was released. The mobile phone weighed 80 pounds and took up most of the car's trunk. By 1948, wireless service was operating in nearly 100 cities with 5000 customers, mainly transport companies and newspapers. Making a call required an operator, and a maximum of 3 calls could be in progress in a city at any given time. Service cost $15/month (equivalent to about $200 in 2024) plus $.35 to $.45 (~$5 in 2024) per call.

Prison cell mates Clyde and Griff are both short-timers. Clyde is considering going straight, but Griff offers him a taste of the roaring 20's. Griff suggests connecting with his criminal cohorts. Clyde is reading a magazine story about glamorous 20's gangster Bull Moose Brannigan.

It's A Crime Does Not Pay Subject short. At its core, this is a character reading a magazine story of a semi-fictional biography. It's not the most compelling way to tell a story. It doesn't help that some of the shooting deaths are done laughably bad. That always breaks me. This is a flat bad scared-straight story.
