Detective. A screen adaptation of the stories of the world famous English writer Arthur Conan Doyle about the incredible adventures of the famous detective Sherlock Holmes and his notorious companion Dr. Watson. As I wrote earlier, I consider the data of the film adaptation, directed by the talented Soviet director Igor Maslennikov, to be the best. No one can ever surpass them. And here's my short opinion - The Best Sherlock Holmes. I have no desire to disassemble some of the jambs of this picture, but I will mention them separately. But I will mainly focus on the expressive merits of this masterpiece of Soviet cinema.
So, here they are:
1. Atmosphere - as in the first picture, here we have Victorian England in full bloom. Familiar costumes, decorations, furnishings, everything conveys the spirit of this famous era, and immerses the viewer into it. The atmosphere is present here from the first to the last shot. It should be said that in the entire series with the atmosphere - complete order!
2. Detective stories - in the first episode (King of Blackmail), our heroes have to face a notorious scoundrel and scoundrel, and do one little business. In the second (Mortal Combat) they will attack the trail of Professor Moriarty - "Napoleon" of the underworld, and finally in the third (Hunt for the Tiger) they will bring this matter to its logical end. And if the investigations in the first film were entertaining and interesting, then the local ones are full of drama and touching moments, perhaps they are the most emotional in the entire series, may the fans and fans forgive me. In some moments I almost even shed a tear. Of course, I knew the plot twists, because I read books, and the script is as close as possible to the original source, for which thanks to the creators.
3. Music - here the composer Vladimir Dashkevich decided to experiment with compositions, which, firstly, strengthened the atmosphere, and secondly, strengthened the emotional connection with the audience, forcing the latter to worry about the characters. This experiment also amplified the dramatic moments to the highest degree.
4. Humor - there is more of it than the first part, and it is much funnier, especially in the first episode, where our heroes do one thing, resulting in a whole heap of comical situations. In the second and third series, there is practically no humor, and rightly so.
5. Famous cast - for this adaptation Igor Maslennikov invited a whole galaxy of wonderful Soviet actors who know their job very well, so you don't have to worry about acting.
Well, yes, the Soviet Moriarty does not really fit into the book image, well, yes, an antenna is clearly visible on the roof of one of the houses, because the shooting took place in Riga, but these are really trifles that do not spoil the overall picture.
A little about the main characters:
1. Holmes, Watson, Mrs. Hudson performed by Vasily Livanov, Vitaly Solomin and Rina Zelena - famous residents of house 221 b on Baker Street. The indefatigable Sherlock Holmes, the cheerful Dr. Watson and the unforgettable Mrs. Hudson are involved in new cases where the stakes have increased, and life itself hangs in the balance. Wonderful actors have returned to their roles - and performed them just great! Bravo!
2. Mycroft Holmes performed by Boris Klyuev is Sherlock's older brother, who works in high government structures. He has no less inquisitive brain than his younger brother. Staten, dressed with a needle, and Boris is perfect for this role in appearance and character. Bravo!
3. Professor Moriarty performed by Viktor Evgrafov is the leader of a criminal gang and a very dangerous opponent of Sherlock, who has an equally sharp mind. Intemperate, secretive, deadly. As I already wrote, the actor was not chosen very well, but I do not pay attention to this.
And in the next part, Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson will have to reveal the dark secret of the ancient Baskerville family, but more on that next time.
As a result, we have an excellent detective story about the confrontation between Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty, with a great atmosphere, music and humor, and especially wonderful acting work.
