Layerbase 1: Lower Decks starts out with Tom, fighting away the monsters of the great space ship, until he makes it his mission to get to the top of the Layerbase.
The story is incredibly unique, set in a dystopian future on an enormous space ferry (S.F. New Home Operation: Class 1 Layerbase) where poisonous fumes from the ship's engines are (deliberately) mutating the passengers into blood-thirsty, flesh-craving zombies, that must be perished by Tom in order for him to complete his mission.
The gameplay is fairly simple, being a platformer game, the controls are easily understood, and the weapons systems are very basic (only letting Tom use a pistol throughout the game and picking up ammo every now and again), as they would be in a scenario like that in the game.
There is no music, although the silence does add to the loneliness of deep space, making a very ambient and realistic environment.
Overall, the game offers great levels that keep the player trying over and over again, and that keep getting harder as the game progresses, until we end on a cliffhanger ready for an excellent series to begin.
