In Los Angeles, CA, January 1998, Karla With a K was working on the air at 103.9 & 98.3FM KACE, when she was stricken with and almost died from meningicoccal meningitis. After being hospitalized for one month and a couple months of rehab, she went back on the air and was there until KACE went off the air in Feb. 2000, when the station was sold and the format was changed to Spanish language.
