Brooklyn Rules (2007), his first experience shooting in the anamorphic format] There are a lot of misconceptions surrounding anamorphic photography. Everybody says, "You need a wider set, you need more light." That's all nonsense. I did light the film to a deeper stop for the sake of the lenses - a T4 as opposed to a T2.8. But what does that mean? You take one scrim out of the lamp. It really changed nothing else in my working methods. I didn't order one more lamp, and it didn't take one more minute of time. All it did was provide a much more appealing picture - a bigger canvas, better graphics, and more compositional possibilities.
