As the story 7cubedfilms began back in 2019 comes to its second last episode, the quality of the Forgotten Ones series has just sky-rocketed. With new skills, updated character models and now an original soundtrack to back it, the series has become one of the more impressive Fan animations seen in Star Wars. 7Cubedfilms and the team that worked on this episode should all be proud.
The story of Resolute continues the adventure of Captain Lock and the clones of base 407, as they race against time to stop the development of a Separatist super weapon. The writing of this episode is superb, as we see more characters fleshed out during the run time. Lock is shown struggling with the failures caused by his actions as a leader, must deal with the consequences. Admiral Vanx has a more prominent presence as the villain of the episode, and we are able to view just how cold and driven the character is. K-squad returns to the spot light with fractures showing between squad members under pressure. I'm hooked on how these characters will reach their resolution in the finale.
With the overhauled visuals and effects the animation is one of the closest things to the official clone wars animation. The new facial models for the clones definitely aligns with the visual look from Clone Wars about is able to put its own spin on it's style. But for using the aging engine known as source as the base, the feat that the team has pulled off to produce something so presentable is extremely impressive.
The original soundtrack composed by Niklas Wempe and Laurin Lenschow is very fitting to the episode and these composers should be proud of their work. The music at times was able to just elevate the emotion of some scenes particularly at the end.
With only a few nitpicks of volume and noticeable sound effect looping, this episode had me deeply engaged in this small universe inside another universe that the team has created, and I am hooked and looking forward towards the finale.
