JOHNNY CASH, The Man In Black, started his music career as a singer, guitar player and song writer from 1955 to his sad death, on Friday, 12th September, 2003. His fantastic career covered six decades, selling over 90 million records, winning numerous music awards, not just from the world of country, but from other genres of music. Also making 'The Hall of Fame' in Country Music, in 1980 and The Rock 'n' Roll in 1992, also winning 42 Awards out of 105 nominees, and winning numerous Grammy Awards The height of his career was in the late 60's working for Columbia at the time, and having his biggest selling albums, especially with his two prison albums, Folsom and San Quentin, outselling The Beatles in 1969. It was said that Cash made Columbia Records their biggest fortune, and sadly after all he did for Columbia, they they dismissed him. Cash being the biggest music seller at the time was given his own TV Show with the TV Giant ABC from 1969 to 1971, covering 58 episodes over those three years, and what a massive success it was, coming into the homes of the American people, throughout America. At the time, the so called 'big knobs' at the top of ABC Television, wanted Cash to just have Country Music Singers/Artists/Performers on his show, but he refused, and stood his ground, telling these producers that he was having artists from all genres of music, or else he walks, and thankfully Johnny Cash got his way, and opened the doors to over hundred artists covering all kinds of music from Country to Pop, Blues, Rock, Rock 'n' Roll and the list goes on, promoting young up and coming singers like Bob Dylan, Neil Diamond and Lulu from Scotland, and many more. He went on the make many great 70's Albums, leading to having Four Christmas Specials, back on TV from 1976 to 1979 inclusive, also a great success, getting 4 * * * * stars VERY GOOD from me - 8 out of 10 on IMDb. The eighties for Johnny Cash and the selling of his albums, took a large dip in sales, though his yearly touring to do concerts throughout America and Europe, and especially Great Britain, which he toured every year since 1956, unlike Elvis Presley who never did a concert in The United Kingdom, mainly because of his manager, Colonel (never been in the forces) Tom Parker. Johnny Cash, continued to sell out his concerts, from his loyal fans. Johnny Cash felt he had hit rock bottom, going through many different Record Companies, including 'Mercury'. Now entering the 90's, a ray of light shone through for JC, especially 1993, when an unlikely Record Producer, called Rick Rubin approached Johnny, and told Johnny, he wanted to be his new Manager/Producer, Rick Rubin is big in he world of producing music for mainly Rock, Heavy Hard Rock Bands, to now Country with Johnny Cash. It turned out this unlikely duo of Rubin and Cash was a massive success, especially for Johnny, re-inventing Johnny with new young audiences/fans all over the world. His New Record Company was AMERICAN RECORDINGS, which went on to produce SIX ALBUMS (Johnny & Rick) 1 > American Recordings (Released - Tuesday, 26th April, 1994) - 2 > Unchained (Released - Tuesday, 5th November, 1996) 3 > Solitary Man (Released - Tuesday, 17th October, 2000) - 4 > The Man Comes Around (Released - Tuesday, 5th November, 2002) - 5 > A Hundred Highways (Released - Tuesday, 4th July, 2006) - 6 > Ain't No Grave (Released - Monday, 22nd February, 2010) plus Live Album - Johnny Cash & Willie Nelson VH1 Storytellers (Released 1998). I was privileged to see Johnny live in Manchester, Liverpool, Southport and were I live in Blackpool, also live in Sheffield (The Highway Man Tour) Under American Recordings, Johnny Cash released the heavy rock band 'Nine Inch Nails' song HURT, and got Best Video of the Year Award in 2003/2004. CASH also appeared at The Glastonbury Festival in England, 1994, appearing on The Pyramid Stage in front of one hundred thousand enthusiastic young fans, Cash said it was his best ever show of all time, and most enjoyable. NO WONDER JOHNNY CASH IS LOVED BY ALL, ESPECIALLY HIS MUSIC FAMILY OF ARTISTS, AND SHOW BUISNESS ARTISTS. (ps)
