Toni English aka Kelly Holland is in top form directing "Power Play" for Penthouse. Famed for her classic Adam & Eve series "Naked Hollywood" she brings her A game to this project, standing out in bold relief from the hundreds of generally mediocre titles she and writer Marc Cushman/Cash Markman cranked out for Penthouse from 2006 through 2011.
Told mainly in flashback narrated in voice-over by star Audrey Hollander, the tale audaciously begins with a show-stopping scene of Audrey servicing in a threesome her pimp Otto Bauer and a client, in which Audrey's sexual prowess before the camera is truly impressive (as is her beauty, with perfect peaches & cream complexion on display). Besides nonpareil deep-throat technique she demonstrates a variety of d.p. positions including a double anal that still set a high standard a decade later. And this is not mere gonzo spectacle, but embedded in a character study and story feature.
The six sex scenes are all well-performed, if hardly as starting as the first one. We learn about Southern girl fleeing to L.A. Lindsey (Audrey Hollander) and her relationship to her Svengali of a pimp Blake played by Bauer, and the conclusion is logical. Of the other gals involved in considerable domination/submission routines indicated by the feature's title, Caswsie Young is most significant as a woman previously in Lindsey's place working for Bauer. Shaved-head tall & exotic star Max Mikita is very strong as usual, giving Eric Masterson the sub a hard time and trying to teach a squeamish pupil Audrey the art of cock & ball torture (CBT).
I'm outspoken in my IMDb reviews with my disdain for the underwhelming scripts from Markman but this one (like his hit comedy "Get Lucky") is a happy exception to the rule, and makes for an excellent Adult movie.
