People make films and videos for many reasons, but clearly the untalented young British wannabe Jason Impey is merely a scribbler. He's cranked out dozens of videos and SICK BASTARD is likely representative of the poor results (I won't be watching any others).
One-note, pointless exercise opens unpromisingly with over two minutes of crawl giving a back-story -necessary since the video proper has no ostensible story. Our protagonist killed his parents in 1990 and ate them; now it's 2006 and he's to be transferred from a mental institution to a low-security lock-up.
Very poorly photographed by Impey, who takes seven credits overall from acting to special effects, the video is essentially an hour of the escaped maniac killing people and generating rather uninteresting but graphic gore. Presumably, Impey and other fans like him assume that gore is the be-all and end-all of entertainment. However, meager results like those on display in SB usually end up nowhere or in this case buried on a Mill Creek Entertainment compilation.
Impey makes no attempt at clever dialog; the acting is uniformly poor, especially his own monotone non-performance as the guy hunting after the maniac. There's no suspense, either, as the maniac kills everyone as predictably as the results of a "Perry Mason" TV episode; no twists, no nothing. At video's end, he's left standing, presumably to set up a dreaded sequel.
Even the couple of attempts at humor fall flat; Impey slaps a shopkeeper who has the temerity to talk back when he asks for information; later the same shopkeeper is drowned in the sink by the maniac. A real side-splitter.
The only scene I almost enjoyed is when, after endless padding and boring driving or wandering around footage, Jason finally meets up with the maniac. M grabs Jason's gun and plugs him an even dozen times. Good riddance.
