The first attempt of Victor Franko to direct a full feature. But to be honest, this isn't really a full feature, the end credits took over 6 minutes which brings the flick under 60 minutes. But he will defend himself by saying, but hey, the end credits were full with bloopers and take outs.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed it. Be warned, don't think that this slasher will give you explicit gore. It's still a ultra low budget but there are indeed a few killings in it. And they were nicely done. They knew that money was a problem so for a low budget they had to use the camera to hide the effects and it worked. But it takes maybe a bit too long before the killer comes in. But I must say that for this kind of flicks the sound and editing was okay. You could understand everybody and the use of the typical score when the killer approaches really worked, and they even but in some fun with the score once Jillian Swanson (Cindy) runs around with a sickle. And to come back to the humour, even their it worked a bit with the nerdy James Granville (Ernie) and the scene concerning shop lifting.
The story itself is of course written and seen a thousand times. But it worked out because the acting wasn't that wooden as seen in so many independents. Still, the first killing of the lesbians isn't convincing, the way she laid her head on the shoulders of her girlfriend when both dying is really as wooden as it can be. But it is Jillian, here in her first full feature who really takes this flick a bit higher then most ultra low budgets.
Due clocking in at 54 minutes it's watchable even as it take a while before the killer comes in. But I guess the most difficult thing will be to catch a copy, because so far it isn't available or you must go to specialized sites. Sure, they put an ode to so many slashers like Friday The 13th, remember the victim being slashed across a tree, or the killer itself reminded me of Jason in part 2 of Friday the 13th or even The Town That Dreaded Sundown, even Sleepaway Camp 2 is reminded by the two dope smoking girls. And just see the end shot, hahaha nicely done. You couldn't see that coming.
