Although the story is a run-of-the-mill romance, it is quite entertaining because of the classical music, especially the piano passages, and because of the beautiful images of Georgia (the one in the Caucasus and on the Black Sea).
A woman caught up in romantic emotions, but not wanting to change her life-style radically, is a theme of many a film. Ann Eleonora Jørgensen plays the role of Valentina well. Her partner, Duta Skhirtladze as Georgi, was also good in his character portrayal. The clash of cultures between Germany and Georgia was not really a theme of the film, although both the main characters were shown not quite fitting into, or at least not used to, the home country of the other. To a much greater extent, the clash of characters was merely underlined by the contrasting backgrounds.
The real star was, as the title suggests, the music. Most of the narrative apart from the main storyline revolves around music, the choice of which compensates for the weaker parts of the central plot. However, it is not up to the standards set by Michelangelo Antonioni in Zabriskie Point, neither in the quality of the visual work, nor in the combination of the scenes with the powerful musical experience.
Nevertheless, it was quite enjoyable.
