Jaal

After her fiancée and father dies, a beautiful young and rich heiress named Sheil (Mala Sinha), decides to live with her late fiancee's mother (Nirupa Roy), but her aunty thinks her son is alive and acts strange - on top of that Sheila keeps seeing a burnt-faced man resembling her late fiancée. Is someone trying to drive her mad?

Biswajeet has starred in two other mystery/suspense films - Bees Sal Baad and Kohra - and Jaal is another one, though as not as well-known as the aforementioned films, which is a shame because it features a good story and atmospheric suspense. The scares are really good, and that's helped largely by Mala Sinha's sharp histrionics. Nirupa Roy is haunting as the woman who thinks her son is alive, and Tarun Bose as her butler is creepy.

Jaal can be slow moving, interspersed with the usual comedic interludes, but the haunting and atmospheric scenes benefit from that. The locations of the beach and the lighthouse lend an eeriness to this good mystery film.
