Yuan shuai zhi si

The literal translation of the title of this film is: Death of the Field Marshal.

Although based on the true story, the movie only tells half of the whole story, which is about the persecution of Field Marshal He Long by Field Marshal Lin Biao. However, the persecution did not come from Field Marshal Lin Biao along: the Gang of Four, lead by Mao's wife, Jiang Qing, also played important part and this was willfully left out in the movie because Mao was behind the Gang of Four.

The Cultural Revolution has just ended less than half a decade ago when this movie was made, and the political environment in China back then simply did not allow criticism of Mao, including those implied ones.
